Mayor's Message

The month of November is an indication that the end of the year is drawing near.  All our plans for this year are coming to their conclusion.  A close check of what we have done allows us to be grateful for what we have accomplished and for what we have in our lives.  I firmly believe our families are the most important asset in our lives.  This time of year allows us to focus on why our families are so important and why we must truly cherish the moments and memories we have spent with them.  As Veterans Day approaches we pause and take a moment to THANK those who have served our country and those who have given their lives so we may enjoy the way of life that only the United States of America can offer.  Please join us on November 4, 2017 at our Veterans Memorial in Capp Smith Park for a heartfelt tribute for all our Veterans.

As Thanksgiving approaches and everyone is out preparing for the festivities, remember to Shop Watauga!  We have over 400 businesses in Watauga to serve all your holiday shopping needs.  May everyone have a fabulous Thanksgiving with your loved ones and don’t forget to join us at the many events made possible by our City Departments! These events truly bring our community together and make Watauga, “A Great Place to Live.”

Construction Updates

The City of North Richland Hills and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Project are widening Rufe Snow Drive from Watauga Road to just south of Ridgetop Road. The existing street shall be reconstructed with concrete pavement, storm water, water, sidewalk, and traffic signal improvements. The construction of the project is to be done in three (3) phases with Phase I being the east side (northbound driving lanes), Phase II being the west side (southbound driving lanes) and Phase III being the center lanes. Continuous dual northbound and southbound driving lanes are to be open during construction other than minor single lane closures as necessary. The contractor, Kodiak Construction, provided an updated construction schedule on October 12, 2017 showing that Phase I should be complete by November 6, 2017. Therefore, expect Phase II, the southbound lanes on the west side of Rufe Snow Drive to be closed for construction. Southbound traffic shall use the existing asphalt center lanes and northbound traffic shall use the new concrete lanes on the east side of Rufe Snow Drive. Phase II is scheduled to be complete by the end of January 2018. The side streets off Rufe Snow Drive shall be reconstructed at the intersection of Rufe Snow Drive. These side street connections include Avalon Drive, Summertime Lane, Chapman Road, Oaklawn Drive, Harrison Way, and Hightower Drive. In addition to these side streets all driveways that connected to Rufe Snow Drive shall be reconstructed. The contractor shall provide driveway entry signs along Rufe Snow Drive notifying motorist of business entry points where construction barricading blocks normal visibility of drive approaches. These signs shall be part of the construction barricade placement. Additional temporary advertising signs may be granted to a business by the Building Official when construction initiated by a governmental entity limits or reduces the access or visibility of the business for more than 60 days. The time allowed for the display of a temporary or portable sign may be extended to the full duration of the limited or reduced access or visibility. Such signs shall be exempt from a permit fee. To request a temporary sign contact the Watauga Public Works Department at 817.514.5753. Phase III of the project, the center lanes is scheduled to begin in late January 2018 and be completed by early April 2018 pending weather conditions and contractor staying on schedule. If you have any questions or concerns about the construction project, please call the NRH Engineering Staff at 817.427.6400 or the Watauga Public Works Department at 817.514.5753.

The City of Watauga is widening Whitley Road from Starnes Road to just south of Oakhill Road. The existing street shall be reconstructed with concrete pavement, storm water, water, and sidewalk improvements. The construction of the project began in late June and is scheduled to be done in January 2018. During the last part of August and mid-September, Atmos Energy was relocating a gas main which delayed the project about one month. The gas main has been relocated and construction on the street is underway once again. Just to the west of the Whitley Road construction is the new Parkview Subdivision for fifty-five new homes which is still under construction. Home construction should start by the end of 2017. If you have any questions or concerns about the construction project, the Watauga Public Works Department at 817.514.5839.

The City of Watauga is widening Bursey Road from Willis Lane to Rufe Snow Drive. The existing street shall be reconstructed with concrete pavement, storm water, water, and sidewalk improvements. The construction of the project began in late July and is scheduled to be done in March 2018. The construction of the project is to be done in two (2) phases with Phase I being the west side from Grayson Way to Willis Lane and Phase II being the east side from Grayson Way to Rufe Snow Road. During the construction of Phase II, there shall be access to the Serene Court, EZ Mart, and Dollar General off Bursey Road. The contractor, Cidrax Texas LLC., provided an updated construction schedule showing that Phase I should be complete by late November. Therefore, expect Phase II, to begin in late November or early December. Phase II is scheduled to be complete in February 2018 pending weather delays. If you have any questions or concerns about the construction project, the Watauga Public Works Department at 817.514.5839.
