Mayor's Message

The Library first opened to the public in 1983 in a room in City Hall. A new building was constructed and opened to the public in 1990. It has since been expanded to its present size of 20,413 square feet. The Library has received the Texas Municipal Directors Association Achievement of Library Excellence Award for the past four years. This award recognizes the contribution of public libraries to its citizens based on ten different criteria including enhanced service to the public, services to the underachieved, literacy support for all ages, and cultural, topical and educational programming.
The Watauga Public Library is a welcoming user-centered space designed for a wide range of purposes-reading, communicating, learning, playing, meeting, and fostering new relationships. It is a hub of civic activity allowing the diversity of our citizens to come together to build a stronger community.

In 2016, the Watauga Public Library was designated as a Family Place Library. Pre-literacy programs and events for our youngest members (up to 3 years) were recently announced. The Family Place within the Library includes special toys, puppets and kits.
Library cards are free to all Watauga residents.  Children (under 18) may have their own library card, with their parent’s signature.  Thanks to WPL’s membership in the MetrOPAC Consortium additional material may be borrowed from Fort Worth, Keller, Haltom City, Burleson, Benbrook and Richland Hills public libraries.

Groups meeting regularly at the Library include Bridge, Knitting and Crocheting, Genealogy, Chess, Beading, Quilting and others. There is special programming for both children and adults. To learn more about everything the Library has to offer you, please call 817.514.5865, visit our website, sign up to get our emails, or follow us on Facebook.  The many services the Library provides make Watauga “A Great Place to Live!”
