MAYOR’S MESSAGE

The oldest position in government is the city clerk or city secretary.  The position can be traced back to before biblical times and is considered the main “hub” for all government happenings. In Watauga, the City Secretary is a City Official who is appointed by the Mayor and City Council.  The position of City Secretary is required by state law and in Watauga is the primary liaison between the Citizens and the City Council.  Most of us are familiar with the City Secretary administering City Elections; however, this is just one of the many responsibilities the City Secretary oversees. Some of the additional duties the City Secretary is responsible for are: Serving as the primary point of contact for citizens wishing to address concerns regarding City services;  Issuing alcohol beverage permits and massage establishment permits; Issuing Hazardous Waste Vouchers; Drafting the agenda, posting, attending and documenting all public meetings of the City Council;  Managing all City liability and property insurance which includes accepting and processing claims against the City;  Coordinating all board/committee/commission appointments; Keeping the City Seal and attesting to all legal and official documents;  Managing all City records.

The City Secretary’s Office is comprised of the City Secretary and an Administrative Assistant, who are committed to serve all citizens, visitors and businesses in Watauga and continue to promote quality and transparent services which uphold the City’s efforts in ensuring Watauga is, “A Great Place to Live.”

What is the Environmental Collection Center?  A drive-through, drop-off site for environmentally-safe and easy disposal of household hazardous waste.

Why use the ECC?  Dumping hazardous household chemical waste into storm drains is illegal.  Since storm water enters streams, rivers, and lakes without any treatment, this may result in water pollution.  This waste should not be disposed of in your home trash/recycling.

The box is located inside the Watauga Police Department lobby at 7101 Whitley Road, Watauga, TX 76148. Local residents are encouraged to use the box to retire their worn or faded flags.
