Animal Services is a division of the Watauga Police Department.  Our goal is to protect the health and safety of both humans and animals in our community.  Animal Services promotes the humane treatment of animals and encourages responsible pet ownership.  Animal Services aims to provide both professional and reliable services for the citizens and animals of Watauga.

The Animal Services Center is an open-admission shelter providing services to the citizens and pets of Watauga.  The center is open to lost, stray and unwanted animals in the City.  Animal Services provides humane care, shelter and adoption services.

Adoption Contract Required

No animal shall be adopted from the City of Watauga Animal Service Center without the completion of a signed contract.  The contract states that the adopted animal shall be spayed or neutered and vaccinated against rabies within thirty (30) days of the adoption. The animal shall also be heartworm tested (if the animal is a dog over six months of age), microchipped, given a dose of intestinal worming medication, and either a feline (FRCP) vaccination or canine (DA2PPv) vaccination.

Animal Nuisances

Chapter 8, Article 8.400, Section 8.401(a)(4) of the Watauga Code of Ordinances prohibits any unreasonable, loud, disturbing or unnecessary noise of such intensity and duration as to be considered a public nuisance.  It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that their dog is not making excessive noises, which result in the disturbance of another.  Animal Control Officers respond to nuisance barking and other animal-related disturbances during regular operating hours and can be reached at (817) 656-9614.  If the problem is occurring after normal business hours, contact the Watauga Police Department at (817) 514-5897.
