Elections

 

The City of Watauga is a Home Rule municipal government and operates under a council-manager form of government.  The Mayor and seven (7) Council Members are elected at-large.  The City Secretary serves as the Election Officer for the City of Watauga.  City elections shall be conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code, and are held on the second Saturday in May and the first Tuesday in November each year.  For more information, please contact the City Secretary's Office at (817) 514-5812 or (817) 514-5825.

 

Special Election Called for November 2, 2010

 

At its regular meeting held on July 26, 2010, the Watauga City Council issued a Resolution and Election Order to call a Special Election to elect Council Member Place 6 for the unexpired term ending May 2012. There will also a be a proposition on the ballot for the continuation of the Watauga Crime Control and Prevention District and continued collection of the one-half (1/2) of one (1) percent sales and use tax.

 

The special election will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Watauga City Hall located at 7105 Whitley Road, and at the Watauga Community Center located at 7109 Indian Springs Road.  Early voting will be held at Watauga City Hall only.

 

To be eligible to serve on the Watauga City Council, candidates must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Shall be a resident of the City of Watauga for at least twelve (12) months.

  • Shall not be employed by the City of Watauga.

  • Shall not hold another elective governmental office.

  • Shall be twenty-one (21) years of age or older at the time of filing for and/or assuming office.

  • Shall not have been determined to be mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.

  • Shall not have been convicted of a felony offense or a misdemeanor offense involving moral turpitude from which the person had not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability.

A crime of moral turpitude shall mean a criminal offense involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or a criminal offense that is inherently immoral.
