Medical Insurance

  • All regular full-time employees are covered by medical, dental and vision care insurance, which is provided at the City's expense.  This insurance includes coverage of hospitalization and major medical expenses for illness.  Family coverage is available by payroll deductions at reduced group rates.  The Personnel Department has more information concerning insurance coverage and benefits.

Life Insurance

  • The City presently has a group life insurance program under which regular full-time City employees are eligible for a minimum of $20,000 or 1X the annual salary (not to exceed $100,000), whichever is greater.

Texas Municipal Retirement System

You are eligible if you are a full-time employee (or employed in a part-time position that normally works 1,000 or more hours in a year as determined by the City).  If eligible, you are required to be enrolled in TMRS; you become a member of TMRS on the date you are employed by the City.

Part of your compensation will be deducted from each paycheck and deposited into your member account.  The City will then match your contribution 2:1. You are vested when you have 5 years of service. Upon meeting certain requirements, you can retire and receive a guaranteed monthly payment for life based on your deposits, the City’s matching funds, and other credits.

Your participation begins on your date of employment, even thought the City might consider you a probationary employee for other benefits.

Worker's Compensation

  • A regular full-time employee who is temporarily disabled in the line of duty shall receive salary continuation in the amount of their regular salary, including holidays, for the period of disability without charge against sick or vacation leave, subject to conditions laid out in the Personnel, Admin & Financial Policies & Procedures Manual.

Longevity Pay

  • Eligible employees shall receive in December of each year lump sum longevity pay based on twelve (12) dollars per month of service up to a maximum of 25 years.  Employees must average a minimum of 25 hours a week to qualify for longevity pay.  Regular part-time employees receive longevity pay prorated to the average hours normally worked each month.

Deferred Compensation

  • The City has available optional 457 Deferred Compensation Programs. Deferred Compensation plans make it possible for City employees to defer income and the payment of income taxes on the deferred amounts.  We provide two companies to choose from.
